“Live Healthy Iowa” Local Team Results
The Montgomery County Family YMCA, in coordination Montgomery County Memorial Hospital and the Red Oak HyVee, sponsored a local team “Live Healthy Iowa” competition to coincide with the statewide contest that took place for 100 days from January 14 through April 23. Five teams were registered for the local contest.
Teams could enter one of two categories, Weight Loss or Accumulated Activity. Teams in the Weight Loss category turned in a beginning weight as of January 14 and tracked their weight loss weekly to the end of the contest. The winning team had the highest percentage of weight loss compared to their beginning weight. The Accumulated Activity team tracked the team member’s activity minutes through out the contest. The winning team was chosen based on the highest number of minutes per team member for the contest period.
Three teams are being honored for the program. The Flabulous Four from HyVee won both the Weight Loss & Accumulated Activity categories. The Flabulous Four team members lost a total of 9.20% of their beginning body weight and averaged almost 122 hours of activity per team member. Also being recognized in the Weight Loss category was The Wright Team from HyVee who lost a total of 8.38% of their beginning body weight. The other team being recognized is the “Your Motivational Challenge to be Active” team from the YMCA which averaged over 111 hours of activity per team member. Each member of the winning teams received a $20.00 gift card courtesy of the Red Oak HyVee and a One Month Free Membership certificate from the Montgomery County Family YMCA.

July Volunteers of the Month!
YMCA NEWS RELEASE
Nick Zimmer, Executive Director of the Montgomery County Family YMCA, has announced that July Volunteers of the Month have been named. He told us that Rex Allen, Diane Sifford, Nancy Zimmer, Bradley & Brayden Sifford, Todd Gilleland, Terry Snyder, Angela Akers, John Blomstedt, and David Hammer were nominated for their great service with cleaning up and sorting bottles and cans at the Rotary Club sponsored event every Friday for the month of July at the Fareway Parking Lot.
The proceeds were designated to the YMCA's "Membership for Everyone" program that assists those youth and adults who wish to beome members of the YMCA or participate in a YMCA program but feel they cannot because of financial situations.
Zimmer also told us that Paula Harold has also been nominated. She set up arrangements with Great Western Bank for the Y to have a "Membership for Everyone" phone-a-thon in July to raise funds for this very important Y program. It has become more significant than ever with businesses closing in recent weeks and people loosing their jobs. Coming to the Y can help these people deal with the stress and the Y prides itself in "being there" for the people in Red Oak and surrounding areas. Paula also arranged for pizza and pop and the Y was able to raise an additonal $1,200. Paula also currently serves on the Y Board of Direcor's as our Secretary.
